PROFILE
Profile
I am a landscape painter, living and working in the community of Swifts Creek, in the Alpine Region of Victoria for the past 30 years. My work speaks of my inherent ties to, and my appreciation of, the place in which I live. I am one of the founding group who established a cooperative art space in Swifts Creek established in 1998 at the Great Alpine Gallery. The gallery provides a valuable centre for collaboration between artists and craftspeople of the area and cross regional interaction.
Artist Statement
My work has been an ongoing inquiry into my subject, a pursuit towards intimate knowledge of the land in which I live. It is important to me that I approach this with integrity and sincerity. I aim to speak of the beauty and strength of this place with insight and connectedness; of the rich seasonal diversity and the visual rightness in all its component parts. I am concerned with the dialogue between colour and mood and creating resonance through colour choice and association. My work is an ongoing study of pattern in nature; those forms and the moments or intervals in nature that repeat themselves. Knowledge of my subject is integral to my work: a consciousness of the layers of the land. My work references segments of experience, visual documentation, an acknowledgement of history and the quality or essence that is found in the East Gippsland hills. It is important that my work acknowledges what the land is saying.
